A “whale” OR “crypto whale” is a cryptocurrency community term that refers to individuals or entities that hold large amounts of cryptocurrency.
Understanding the Term
A whale is a high-net-worth individual (HNWI) — or organization — that is holding a large amount of a single cryptocurrency asset, typically 1% and more. Whales hold enough cryptocurrency that they have the potential to manipulate currency valuations.
A crypto whale is also defined as someone with a million dollars or more in the asset.
